SPF Testing - Water Resistance

For products claiming water resistance, the test volunteers spend time in a spa pool after the product has been applied. The areas of the skin to which the product has been applied are then irradiated with UV light and evaluated as per the static test. The maximum period for water resistance which can be claimed is 4 hours and is set out in the Australian Standard which requires that this be related to the category of SPF protection achieved.

For products which are intended for Europe or USA, only 40 min and 80 minute water resistant claims are permitted.
